Chicago's rapid-transit system is nicknamed the 'L'. This label is short for "elevated" and "loop" and serves Chicago and surrounding suburbs. Parts of the system are elevated leading into the downtown "Loop". It is the second oldest transit system in the Americas, after Boston.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) operates New York City's transit systems. It runs buses, subways, and commuter trains. This public transportation network is very extensive as many residents in New York City don't own cars. It is an efficient way to bring daily workers into the city.

The SF cable car system is the last manually operated cable car system. It is part of the San Francisco urban transport network developed for use on the city's steep slopes. They have become a tourist attraction and attract riders from all over the world.
